Beach Holidays in Pangani
The name "Pangani" derives its meaning from the river flowing from Mt.
Kilimanjaro to its last destination in the Indian Ocean. The town is about 50 km. from Tanga town
by road. Like other coastal towns of Tanzania, Pangani has more of historical buildings,
plantations and factories established by Arabs, Germans and British. Unlike Zanzibar
and Dar-es-Salaam, Pangani is less visited and this makes it a unique place for
a calm tour where one will enjoy clean water and white sand beaches.
Pangani had become a terminus of the caravan route from Lake Tanganyika by late
19th century, and a major export pint for slaves and ivory. Sisal and copra plantations were
established in the area while several European missions and exploratory journeys to the
interior began from here. At the end of the 19th century, focus had shifted to Tanga
and Dar es Salaam and Pangani rapidly declined. You can take a ferry across the Pangani River
and visit some splendid hotels such as Emayani Beach Lodge, Tides Hotel, Mashado Hotel and Coco
Beach. You can also do different things like swimming, fishing, snorkeling and
enjoy bare foot walking and of course, a refreshing breeze from the Indian Ocean.
