Hotels in Zanzibar East Coast
The beaches found on the East Coast of Zanzibar are stunning, combined with the
charming fishing villages, where the locals live a simple life.
The main form of income along the quiet East Coast is fishing and selling dried seaweed.
Many locals welcome travellers into their homes, offering an unusual way of exploring
Zanzibar. As the coral reef are far away from the beach, the coast has one of the
smoothest and cleanest beaches on the whole island. At low tide it’s possible
to walk out a couple of hundred meters on the finest, white coralsand
you can imagine. You can relax on the beach or teke a long nice walk.
The East Coast can be split into the busier North East and the South East.
Small villages are scattered along the coast, the main ones being Paje, Bweju and Jambiani.
Visitors can relax on unspoilt beaches with crystal clear water and enjoy views of
beautiful corals and palm trees, or swim in sheltered lagoons, go snorkelling or
scuba diving. One may spot turtles, eels, rays, dolphins, humpback whales
and sperm whales. Other villages include Pongwe, Uroa, Chwaka and Michamvi.
